IRVING, Texas - Cowboys running Felix Jones says his left knee is improving. A driving rainstorm didn't prevent him from increasing his practice workload Wednesday at nearby Standridge Stadium.
But Jones isn't making a definitive prediction on his status for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
"I really can't tell you that," Jones said. "But during practice I feel good about it. I thought I looked pretty good. That's all I can go by right now.
"Like I said, day by day, it's getting better and better."
Jones practiced Monday for the first time since injuring his posterior cruciate ligament Sept. 28 against the Carolina Panthers. He's working with a knee brace and said he'd likely wear it if active Sunday.
The Cowboys are optimistic Jones will play. Team owner Jerry Jones said the second-year running back looks "ready" and Marion Barber (strained quad) looks "a week better off" after the team's bye.
Barber also will play with a fractured left thumb that requires a cast, but since he's right-handed the injury shouldn't affect him carrying the ball. Tashard Choice also got his share of playing time.
Felix Jones said his knee still has some soreness, but he was pleased with the way it responded Tuesday, the day after his first practice in three weeks.
Jones credited the team trainers for helping him return to practice. Now he's itching to get on the field in a critical game situation.
"I'm very anxious," he said. "I hate missing the games, missing practices with my teammates. We go out there during the off-season, during the OTAs and we put in a lot of time and we grind. I hate to see them out there working and I'm not able to be out there with them. I'm very anxious to get back out there and just have fun."
